looks like a spotted jelly or lagoon jelly. (named after its common habitat) scientific name mastigias papua. uses its 4-8 oral ‘arms’ to eat mostly plankton and delivers a mild sting with a burning sensation. bell diameter is 10-30cm and the tentacles are usually the same length!

🪼Jellyfish fact

Jellies can still sting you while they are dead, which is more commonly known. What is not commonly known is that the bell (round body) in some species also sting! When encountering a jellyfish you don’t recognize, do not touch the bell! I learned this the hard way.

🪼 Their stinging cells are not intended for human skin and cannot penetrate, but can paralyze their natural prey.
