Congressman Joseph Neguse serving as the U.S. representative for Colorado's 2nd district put the Government Shutdown into perfect perspective. His statement here should resonate with American's from all walks of life.

Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:

“Some of the *retaliatory* tariffs are a huge irritant to the U.S.” He’s literally saying the U.S. is irritated by Canada punching back and protecting itself from the instigating American punches.
What has Canada done to deserve such a piece of crap, gaslighting U.S. ambassador? #cdnpoli

🇨🇦 Canada isn’t chasing U.S. approval—we’re charting our own course.
Inclusion over division.
Science over spin.
Diplomacy over dominance.
We’re not louder—we’re wiser.

This is a serious warning: “We are a functioning democracy…there's limits…to how much a person who aspires to be a prime minister should curtail media."

Limiting who asks questions, the # of questions and access to candidates/supporters is antidemocratic.

The short term drain might be researchers from the US going to other countries. The longer effect would be non-US researchers avoiding the US and going straight to other countries. The US will no longer be seen as the place to post-doc and build a career.

Trump on NATO: "If the United States was in trouble and we called them. We said, 'We got a problem, France.' Do you think they're gonna come and protect us? Hmm. They're supposed to. I'm not so sure." (Literally the only time NATO Article 5 was invoked was after 9/11 on behalf of the US.)

The Liberals should hammer the CPC on this. Poilievre is providing them real ammunition. It's such a misread of the situation.
