I went to my first Christmas market of the season in Copenhagen this weekend and the smell of mulled wine, candied almonds, and roasted chestnuts was a balm for the soul

my girlfriend regularly makes her Gibsons a meal by adding so many picked onion garnishes that it counts as onion soup

she sounds like she was a legend and given how well she raised you, I'm not at all surprised, but still a lovely thing to hear it first-hand. much love 💜

it's so fucking depressing. and we didn't even get the sick neon cyberpunk aesthetics in compensation. all the drawbacks, none of the benefits

when I die, if somehow, somebody misses me so much that they want to create a digital facsimile of me as a coping mechanism I swear to god I'll haunt them for eternity and I neither believe in a god nor an afterlife but I'd try my very hardest to make it happen. ghastly behaviour. haunting required.

some economically illiterate people do this, but more people reduce taxable income by e.g. increased pension contributions. self-employed company directors can also leave money in the company as a buffer, add their spouse as a shareholder and pay dividends if they're not a higher rate taxpayer, etc

an hour later and I'm on the bus as scheduled. if I had packed any earlier that'd leave enough time to doubt what I've packed. now I'm 100% certain it's the perfect loadout because I just made those decisions minutes ago. current alex can only doubt past alex.

I have a system of two backpacks, one smaller and one larger, that can strap into each other for extended carrying, or they can be detached when you're travelling so one fits in the overhead locker and one fits under the seat on a flight. I adore it. I will not hear any backpack slander. I refuse

*if* you apply a custom emoji font for emojis using unicode-range you can use every declaration available in @font-face to modify them

...is that useful? no probably not, I'd add a class with JS myself
Targetting specific characters with CSS rules
You can't. There is no way to use CSS to apply a style to every letter "E". It simply can't be done. At least, that's what they want you to think… What if I told you there was a secret and forbidden...

the Scandi countries go through large amounts of cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom in particular, and Christmas wouldn't be the same without them, but spice usage apparently only counts when it's in savoury dishes that are hot-spicy

(by "least amount of fucking around" I assume you'd be okay with something reliable and easily extensible, but if you prefer all bells and whistles to be included out of the box it's not the best option)

seconding 11ty, it's been low fuss for me compared to other SSGs I've tried, and it's incredibly fast. the core itself deals with the basics and gets out of your way; the plugin system is good and takes care of the rest like syntax highlighting. there is one for Mermaid but I haven't tried it

bøker & børst is a lovely cozy cafe/bookshop, and døgnvill has great burgers. if you want to try a local specialty, go to Patrioten Bistro and order the komle, which is a most cromulent potato dumpling
