Christmas Day we played the new game Fountains, and the old game The Quest for El Dorado. With Fountains we used the objective cards for the first time, and it was the first time I won. I usually win at El Dorado, and this time I crushed it.

Taught Keep the Heroes Out to wife and MIL. We all agreed: too long and repetitive. We played 2 hours and then lost with the reveal of 2 Heroes: they opened a level 3 chest that reactivated all 3 heroes, who then entered the loot room and won. Insta-lose after 2 hours. 5/10.

Willow and Xander helping me relearn Keep the Heroes Out. The Underground Market Gamemats arrived and I've finally decided it's time to teach this one to my wife (who prefers co-ops). Wanting something less taxing than Spirit Island and this might be it.

We really enjoy the game Wormholes, by the designer of Tiny Towns. It's so fun to put out your wormholes in the hope of creating a useful space highway, but you end up using your opponent's wormholes, which gives them points! The end game is very thinky as you try to deliver to every planet type.

Easter game-day included Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra. We’ve owned 4 versions of Azul, and we feel that this one is our favorite: simple gameplay with deep thoughts and great hate drafting.

Learning to play Stonespine Architect on BGA while visiting family in the hospital. I played solo Cartographers iPad app a handful of times and found it nice enough, but didn't stick with it. So far this one seems to match my theme taste more. Will buy.

Xander has always been fascinated by running water; this fountain has been the perfect gift for him.

Learned _River of Gold_ board game today and then taught wife, who commenced to destroy me--like usual. 72--49. We both really liked it: ease of play with very quick turns, just the right amount of thinkyness, game ends at the right time. I didn't feel the need for one more turn.

The moon sets in the morning over the Olympic Peninsula.

Our local game store has a Crokinole night every Wednesday, and I went this week for the first time. I'm definitely going often and bringing friends. Such a 10/10 game, with good people.

It's been a long time: finally getting back to A Feast for Odin: The Norwegians. This used to be my #1 solo; time to see if that's still true. Also, I stopped playing solo a while back, and I'm not sure if I like solo anymore.

I just don't know--"Kingdom Death: Monster" doesn't grab me yet. We've killed 2 monsters so far, built weapons and armor, but it's not keeping me engaged--I find myself looking at my phone or walking away from the computer when it's not my turn.

I've decided to keep "Witchcraft!" a while longer. There's a lot of hard decisions to be made, along with lots of failure, but it's very engaging and cutesy.

The mountains were out the other day, with a lovely topping of snow.

I think that Miniature Market's New Year's goal was to get rid of all the plastic bubble wrap they have in the warehouse--look how much wrap they used for this tiny deck of cards! The deck was at the bottom of the box with one layer of bubble under it, all the rest on top.

Apple's Image Playground converted My City into something cool looking--I'd play that game.

Nephew has been busy with soccer this Fall and returned last night to continue the My City campaign. We play 1 chapter per meetup, and last night was #2, which introduced the churches. Wife, MIL, and I have played the campaign twice, and happily make the nephew play as an excuse to play it again.
