I’m blaming typing with a band-aid on one finger (I wrote that weeks before the cut happened)

Jacob deGrom cured it of that at some point.

That all said I don’t think this is the best system in baseball because of the lack of floor and the lack of present pitching depth. But it’s probably top five and also it doesn’t really matter either way for them.

The Dodgers are also taking a portfolio approach with these types of players. They don’t need all of the outfielders to work out. Just one or two of them. They don’t need all dozen of the Patrick Copens to throw enough strikes, just three or four of them. It’s hard for them to get a Konnor Griffin.

But also if you have a prospect that hits the ball as hard as the Dodgers top nine or so and have good swing decisions and good contact rates. Well you are talking about the top prospects in the game at that point. At a short list. So then it is just what do you want to put more weight on.

I think also the “hit tool concerns” are overblown with a lot of these guys because there is a strain of public evaluation and team models that get cold feet when you are passive and your low minors zone contact drops below 83 or something. Which yeah, I get that.

I have heard it in industry feedback (some specifically solicited some just shooting the shit), and I get it on some level, the Dodgers have a higher risk tolerance than most orgs which I think means they get more low end outcomes on both injury and performance. But they want to take the swings.

I’m head down/hold all my calls for uh the next month or so (I will of course answer questions about lists here or in the comments, but I did want to briefly address the “Dodgers system is overrated” narrative.

The Dodgers list goes up tomorrow and then there is a blur of 200k words or so. As always if you want me to come on your podcast or do a Q+A for your blog to discuss any list, just ping me.
