You get an elite closer for 2.5 years and you’ve got a window with Schwarber/Harper/Wheeler/Trea. You still have (for the moment) pieces you think can help be part of the next run soon as well (Painter/Miller/Crawford).

Will Tait potentially be a special bat? Maybe, but also imo that also means sticking behind the plate, and I’ve got questions on that. Plus he’s likely 3 yrs away. Abel might be a mid-rotation arm, still has to work on refining a third pitch and his command overall.

I think where I’m at with it is it’s a bit much because it is a reliever and you are trading a good catching prospect and at best a mid-rotation starter. But you get the control, he is elite. In terms of Tait not a guarantee he can stay behind the plate long term and is still like 3 years away

Obviously everybody is jumping to can they use him in the bullpen now, and while that sounds intriguing remember you also have to add him to the 40 man for this playoff run before potentially sending him down next year to try and develop him as a starter and occupying that spot

And good for Abel to make it after some real up and down seasons. Sunday is now even more must watch if it wasn’t already with Skenes on the opposite side
