The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dash camera footage from the area of Highway 285 and Settlers Drive around 7:00 p.m., to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division via our tipline at 303-271-5612 or email us at jcsocrimetips@jeffco.us.

This is an active investigation.

At the time of this release, the individual remains in critical but stable condition.

Witnesses traveling behind the SUV reported observing what appeared to be a road-rage incident involving a second vehicle, described as a light-colored Subaru, traveling in the same direction.

While units were enroute, the call was updated to a road rage, shots-fired incident after it was determined that a passenger in the SUV had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

The injured passenger was transported to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office public lobbies will be closed today in observance of Veterans Day. Our team remains on duty to keep our community safe.

- Check privacy settings together and turn off location sharing on social media apps.
- Review app permissions regularly so everyone understands what’s being shared.

Apps that often share location:
• Snapchat: Snap Map shows friends’ locations live
• Instagram: Photos and Stories can include tagged locations
• Facebook: Check-ins reveal where your teen is
• TikTok: Posts can include embedded location data if enabled

That can open the door to risks like:
• Strangers learning their routines
• Possible stalking or harassment
• Unwanted attention or privacy breaches
