New this week: I wrote about Memphis. Crime was dropping prior to the Federal deployment in late Sept. While it has fallen fast since, it's not clear if this accelerated drop is due at least in part to a change in reporting practices.

Shootings in DC are still down substantially from where they were during the worst part of 2023, but are roughly where they were pre-deployment right now.

The drop in gun violence in DC following the Federal deployment starting in mid-August has more or less completely subsided.

Pretty decent relationship between the shift to the left relative to 2024 in New Jersey counties with the share of Hispanic population within that county. Less strong relationship in Virginia which makes sense.

There have been fewer than 1,000 shooting victims in New York City over the last 12 months. That's the first time time below 1,000 since April 2020 and a 56% drop since the height of the surge in 2020/2021.

Major Cities Chiefs is out with data through Q3 2025. They find a 14% drop in violent crime with across the board drops in individual crime types. Their sample includes 68 agencies. This matches (though slightly overstates) the drops being measured in the RTCI.
