Friendly neighbourhood nature guy, local food, community building and miniature hobbying. Native plant gardening in Ward 3 #hamont
I won’t post anything about the remnant leeks I saw out in the wild today. Happy to see there are parts of #hamont still rich with spring ephemerals 😌

Happy to see @thespec1846.bsky.social
incorporating some uplifting news into their content cycle. I find 3 page articles covering murder in #hamont to be objectionable and people need to see some good news for a change to know what’s possible. H

A brook trout populated creek in Flamborough that could use some love. It’s overwidened and in full sun, making it higher in temperature than it should be.

Patiently waiting for the new trees and shrubs to pop. We enjoyed the warm weather after work :)

Let me know if you’re interested in receiving any free native plants I propagate annually for the community. Available in mid-late May.

A wealth tax on the richest people in the country would put more money in Canadians pocket.

Yet both Liberals and Conservatives would rather billionaires thrive while you struggle.

For those concerned with the amount of road salt on the streets that will eventually make their way into our waterways, there are alternatives.

This one has some particular advantages if you do a little digging:

This stand of switchgrass toppled over after that dumping of snow we had a week or so ago.

With that setting with lots of indigenous seed, it looks like the equivalent of a cozy couch and bag of chips for birds 😁

There’s a home in my neighbourhood (206 Farleigh Ave S.) for sale with a ~200 year old Red Oak and I’m worried about it…. 😣

I read a very brief piece in the Hamilton Spectator that Google is finally sending that $100 million to that Canadian journalism fund. It isn’t ideal as it fell short of the target, but progress, nonetheless.

There are some truly great farms in #hamont and I think we would greatly benefit from a local food terminal.

Corner stores selling local peaches, cherries and apples grown locally, akin to the ones in Toronto.

Dream big for what our food system could be….

Farmers’ markets are a vital but overlooked part of fixing Canada’s struggling food system
There’s been a call for more retail grocery competition, but what about the role of farmers’ markets?

I scored another bag of 🍂💰! The newly restored backyard trees are lacking and the soil is poor. There were several bags of leaves by a neighbourhood 100+ Y.O. White Oak; in addition to the nutrients these leaves will provide, there may be moths, butterflies and other insects saved from landfill 😌
