I think it’s reasonable sometimes to say “I really like this game’s premise or setting but I don’t like the rules and don’t want to play with them.” Sometimes the rules a poorly conceived. Sometimes you just want a different kind of experience in that world than the rules are designed to support.

There are people who are into fandoms mostly for the social experience that fandom provides and only incidentally for the media that gives occasion for the fandom, which, honestly, is a fully defensible way to be a fan imo.
