A Kannapolis spokeswoman confirmed to The @charlotteobserver.bsky.social that Edgar Maddison Welch, who died Monday after two officers shot him this weekend, was the “Pizzagate” gunman in 2016.

He was shot when he refused to drop a gun pointed at an officer during a traffic stop.

Almost every tenant living at the Lamplighter Inn has been moved out of the west Charlotte hotel this week.

They’ve been moved to other hotels around the city - reportedly all in better conditions - and will get help finding permanent housing.

Alicia Harvey and her daughters moved to Charlotte after a hurricane destroyed their Florida home in 2018, leaving them homeless.

It was meant to be a fresh start.

Instead, they lived in shelters and 5-7 hotels, including the Lamplighter Inn.

ProPublica spoke with 135 people who had experienced "sweeps" of homeless encampments. We also distributed notecards so people could write about it in their own words.

BREAKING: People at the Lamplighter Inn have been told the west Charlotte hotel will close on Dec. 11 and utilities shut off. They’ll need to exit the property by then.

Long term tenants and those without a place to go will be moved to other hotels.
