It was a month before this year's #TinyBabyTerrapin she started eating. This isn't abnormal. Wild hatchlings often rely on their yolk sac for months before they figure out how to hunt. This girl is finally eating her Wheaties and growing, as evidenced by the peeling skin on her head.

How I'm flavoring the beans today.
A whole jalapeño and whole cumin seeds in shimmering oil at the bottom of a stainless steel pot. Diced red onions flecked with cumin seeds cooking in hot oil. A blackened jalapeño nestled in a bed of diced red onion, stained orange after the addition of paprika, black pepper, and salt. The same jalapeño, with the addition of diced celery, yellow carrot, and garlic.

When things are rough, making soup helps.

Every year I forget how much baking soda is required to get this going fast enough, and then I have to run around adding it to everyone's cup in first period. This year I need to put a sticky note on the supplies so future me will know. #edusky

This took me an hour, but it was satisfying. There are tiny gaps between the petals that I think I'm going to fill in with a reddish orange.
