you're too cynical. surely there is a politician out there who can make us all ten to twenty years younger and reverse all of the hardships we have experienced (without wiping out our stock market gains or technological advancements, of course)

Obviously that sounds nice but the impulse to oppose prisons on principle makes it harder to enact real changes to help people (ie the fight against building new prisons so that New York can close rikers)

if the idea behind abolishing prisons is that you first achieve a violence free world where prisons become unnecessary, what's the point of abolishing the prisons? shouldn't we just be keeping them there until we reach that world you're creating?

which isn't to say politicians shouldn't be telegraphing disapproval. but let's be real here. the democrats should not be going all out to prevent people from realizing who they voted in
