🧵I think it’s important to understand what disinformation like Sen. Mike Lee’s tweets are trying to do, psychologically/cognitively. In my disinfo class/Substack, I talk about how disinfo often uses “moral disengagement strategies” to manipulate people into accepting harmful conduct 1/
This is an egregiously shameful tweet from a US senator

Swalwell: Hegseth is still the Secretary of Defense? This moron texts out our war plans, putting our soldiers at risk, and he’s not gone?

Every one on that chat—they just fire off texts not knowing who is on the chat? They all should be fired if they don’t resign.

2. The effort to "eliminate DEI" is just a code to avoid talking explicitly about white power

But Darren Beattie, just hired for a senior State Department role, made the point explicitly last October

"Competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work"

Firing thousands of federal employees opens up the opportunity to create a workforce where the only criterion for being hired is your loyalty to Donald Trump and Elon Musk. It's not about efficiency.

Trump and Musk's actions can overwhelm the reader. Important not to forget basic facts.

If Musk illegally accessed federal employee records and tax and social security information and transferred them to a private device, he is vulnerable to prosecution and a multidecade sentence in federal prison.
Snowden was charged with violating the Espionage Act and theft of government property. If the records stolen by Musk include records on armed forces and intelligence employees, I would suspect both might be applicable here too. Does anyone know the statute of limitations on these types of charges?

One way to reduce drug spend is to have the FDA do an analysis of how long medicine retains it's potency. It can do it one drug at a time.

No one should throw away medicine they shouldn't have to. Whether pharmacy or patient.

The Myth of Drug Expiration Dates
Hospitals and pharmacies are required to toss expired drugs, no matter how expensive or vital. Meanwhile the FDA has long known that many remain safe and potent for years longer.

One of the points I made was in reference to “community notes”. Its being pitched as a new form of moderation. But the reality on X is that almost every time, Notes only show up to the people who volunteer to respond.
They aren’t visible to everyone else. So they really don’t have an impact

Dems/media condemning Joe for pardoning Hunter right after a psycho who has spent 4 years ranting that he was going to go after him is the most toxic kind of phony virtue signaling imaginable. Don’t forget to pat yourselves on the back from your perches on the moral high ground.
