Keep an eye out tomorrow for my latest piece for @newrepublic.com about how Tesla and Musk are propped up by exploiting carbon tax credits and the hypocrisy of slashing assistance to working-class Americans while relying on government handouts to keep his multibillion-dollar house of cards upright.

I sold 85% of my belongings, stored the rest, and headed to the beach with a few bags and my cat. And this was actually my second life pivot in two weeks. So, I wrote an anti-self-help piece about what I've learned and some ideas about purpose outside of individualism. medium.com/@jdylan901/w...
Why You’re Not Going to Find Yourself (I Quit My Life Twice in Two Months)
A few weeks ago, I sold 85% of my belongings, stored the rest, and drove to the beach with a few bags and my cat. I had no income, no solid…

It is incoherent to mention Mahmoud Khalil or how we arrived at this moment without naming the reason he is being targeted. Because there has long been an exception to First Amendment rights in this country, and that is supporting Palestine or being Palestinian.

As a child, I used to lie awake in bed, wondering why there is something rather than nothing. I'm not sure if this is usual–if I was a particularly philosophical child or if all children are natural philosophers. Either way, I finally found out the answer tonight during transcendental meditation.

I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to have a grand life purpose. My life's purpose today is to draft a letter to the best of my ability. My purpose today is to learn something. My purpose today is to make challah for my friends' shabbat dinner.

I sincerely don’t know why people aren’t physically stopping those dorks. Move shit. Lock doors. Lose the keys. Everyone switch seats. Turn off all the lights. Switch the signs on the elevator lobby. Make the settings all silly. Use a different language. Wear costumes. Fill rooms with balloons

To self-described centrists: if one party wanted to kill you and another wanted to save you, would you align with the center who wanted to compromise by only cutting off your legs, or would you organize with those trying to help you live?

This is what we were saying in the wake of Luigi's assassination of the United CEO. There is individual murder and there is social murder. Trump ending funding for cancer trials, climate protections, education, and the livelihoods of millions who work in these fields is social murder. Policy kills.

As the new regime seeks to maximize the number of lives it can ruin each day, I am reminded of this from Mary Oliver.

Today, on Inauguration Day and MLK Day, I am reminded that– however far we have strayed from the ideals (of imperfect men) on which this country is founded–those ideals were worthy promises. I do not want those of us who believe in justice to surrender patriotism to those who want to undermine them.

My latest for @NewRepublic unpacks the historical roots & modern branches of anti-intellectualism on the Christian Right and how it is leading to anti"woke" crusades, book banning, and school board takeovers. newrepublic.com/article/1900...
Why the Christian Right Demonizes Discourse
Their toxic fear of ideas is shaping the modern censorship movement.

Of course it is a scam.

They are using stochastic terrorism to create/amplify a trans panic as a distraction for their grift and power grab.

We are not just the target, but also the scapegoat to achieve their goals.

America’s Anti-Trans Panic Is a Scam
While the current wave of discriminatory policies will do obvious harm to the transgender community, they’re also meant to distract from the myriad ways we’re all getting fleeced.

It’s no coincidence that economic precarity and anti-trans panic are rising together. I wrote this essay for The New Republic about how these two issues are connected and what it means for all of us who care about creating a better world.
