At the core of Trump's approach lies a consistent pattern of threat, coercion, and extraction of concessions - a strategy combining Unpredictability, Discovering Thumbscrews and Crushing Enemies. The pattern can appear across domains and typically follows three steps: Issue a threat or create a crisis (often unexpected) Target the specific vulnerabilities of opponents Accept concessions that, while perhaps less than the original demand, represent victories that wouldn't have occurred without the confrontation. This explains his fondness for brinkmanship in both domestic and international affairs - the creation of crisis generates leverage that wouldn't exist in conventional negotiations. Whether threatening members of congress with primaries, world leaders with trade wars, or universities and their funding, the power dynamic remains the same: create pressure, identify leverage points, and extract concessions. He has used it his entire adult life. Trump's approach to tariffs demonstrates how Unpredictability, Finding Thumbscrews, and Creating Spectacles work together. By suddenly announcing tariffs on allies and adversaries alike, he creates economic uncertainty that forces other nations to respond on his terms. The targeting often exploits specific economic vulnerabilities of those countries, while the dramatic announcements and subsequent negotiations create media spectacles that reinforce his perceived image as a dealmaker. Rather than representing thoughtful economic strategy, these moves primarily satisfy his craving for attention on the world stage, forcing global leaders to engage with him directly.

Former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, Michael Gableman, who spread election conspiracies and led an investigation into President Donald Trump’s 2020 loss in the swing state agreed Monday to surrender his law license to settle multiple misconduct violations. wisconsinwatch.org/2025/04/wisc...
The investigation failed to uncover any widespread fraud, but drew bipartisan derision and cost taxpayers more than $2.3 million. Throughout the seven-month inquiry, Gableman was sued over his response to open records requests and subpoenas and countersued. He was ridiculed for scant expense records, criticized for sending confusing emails and making rudimentary errors in his filings and called out for meeting with conspiracy theorists. The OLR complaint accuses Gableman of making false statements, disrupting a court hearing, questioning a judge’s integrity, making derogatory remarks about opposing counsel, violating open records law and revealing information about representing Vos during the investigation while Gableman was promoting a failed effort to recall Vos from office.
