A notable omission in the EU’s reaction to U.S. threats over Greenland to date. Despite reaffirming its commitment to territorial integrity, there has been no apparent discussion so far of targeted sanctions (1/2).

As member states rally in support of Denmark, a question to watch is whether the EU would be prepared to adopt targeted measures if its territorial integrity faces further threats. This situation could become a defining test for the EU’s ability to respond to new risks from a historical ally.

New EU sanctions target 2 members of the Russian judiciary responsible for:

🚫 the repression of civil society and democratic opposition
🚫 undermining democracy and the rule of law in Russia

The Council has renewed the EU economic sanctions against Russia until 31 July 2026.

These sanctions target Russia’s financial, trade, energy, transport, technology and defence sectors, as well as services provided to Russia or to Russian nationals.
