A notable omission in the EU’s reaction to U.S. threats over Greenland to date. Despite reaffirming its commitment to territorial integrity, there has been no apparent discussion so far of targeted sanctions (1/2).

🚫 violations of human rights
🚫 the repression of civil society and democratic opposition
🚫 undermining democracy and the rule of law in Russia

The Council has renewed the EU economic sanctions against Russia until 31 July 2026.

These sanctions target Russia’s financial, trade, energy, transport, technology and defence sectors, as well as services provided to Russia or to Russian nationals.

The EU has imposed sanctions on a further 41 vessels of Russia's shadow fleet, which is:

🚫 circumventing the oil price cap and other EU sanctions
🚫 practicing irregular and high-risk shipping practices

The EU has decided to impose additional sanctions targeting 12 individuals and 2 entities in light of Russia’s continued hybrid activities, including cyber attacks as well as foreign information manipulation and interference.

The EU has sanctioned an additional 5 individuals and 4 entities responsible for supporting Russia’s shadow fleet and its value chain.

Russia's shadow fleet is composed of non-EU vessels circumventing the oil price cap and other EU sanctions.

The Council has broadened scope of the sanctions regime against #Belarus to cover hybrid activities targeting EU member states.
