The only winning move is not to play…

How about a nice game of chess?

Go be CEO of a multimillion dollar company for a decade or more and we’ll take you!

It’s a great journey

It’s a great organization!

Helping people is the best

I appreciate your perspective

Edge cases are not fruitful exercises when adopting your core values. These guide your life, not dictate it

Agreeing that someone dying of dehydration taking a bottle of water from the store and drinking it is morally acceptable doesn’t mean “I don’t support theft” is no longer a worthy cause…

Presuming I’m trying to align an idealist philosophy w pragmatic application?

I’m not ignorant that if extremely threatened there is a >0 chance that value systems are compromised

I’ll invest my time more wisely than hypothesizing when I’d kill

Even in horror, humanity matters

Love that destroys to protect ceases to be whole

There was no peaceful alternative to World War II, but that’s an indictment of humanity, not a vindication of violence

Pacifism is the work of preventing the world from ever reaching that point again
October 24, 2025 at 12:12 PM
Pacifism isn’t blind to suffering. Refusing to kill isn’t refusing to act

Violence can stop evil for a period of time, but it cannot heal it

Pacifism seeks justice without losing humanity, resisting cruelty without letting hate become the weapon of choice

It’s the only real agency we have as humans

I politely disagree that meeting violence w violence is the only or best solution

I’m not trying to change your mind. We’re all in this in different ways

But modeling the behavior of non-violence and supporting the end to all wars is the path I’ve chosen

The only “side” I choose is peace
October 22, 2025 at 11:36 PM
Self defense on an individual level isn’t necessarily incongruous with pacifism

Various philosophies differ on the self defense topic

But we largely agree that nation states should always adopt a position of non-violence

Every animal has a fight or flight response

Violence is often unavoidable in those situations, unfortunately

Choosing a life of non-violence doesn’t insulate from aggression, it simply seeks to avoid it

People act in ways I disagree with all of the time

Thank you

We don’t have to agree to be respectful

It costs nothing to be kind and generous in thought, especially to those we disagree with
October 21, 2025 at 9:03 PM
You must be a lot of fun at parties
October 21, 2025 at 2:41 PM
If subscribing to a philosophy of nonviolence makes me an easy target that is the cost of living free from the hate and anger necessary to muster violence

Love is free. Joy is free

Hate always has a price
