To double down, my best connections were our host family in Italy and my family in the UK, but I've had long conversations with a chef in Japan over lunch, a waiter in Paris who didn't speak English, a Moroccan student in Paris, and many Int students and colleagues. Just talk (and listen) to people!

Me too, and the longest I've "lived" in another country was 5 weeks. But I have connected with exchange students, visited several countries, stayed with host families, visited neighborhood restaurants, and befriended people with different backgrounds. It doesn't take much to change perspective.
