I see a surprise showing at my local theater today! Don’t think I can catch it, though. 🫤

#Primate is a fun, well-done, animal attacks/slasher b-movie that pulls a number of visual cues from its genre influences. Violent and gory with the rabid chimp getting right to it for a lean 89 minute runtime.

Lighting bugged me. Set in Hawaii, it shouldn’t be so drab and dark.

Happy New Year, Anita! 🎉🥂🍾🥳

There are dozens and dozens of horror movies I could name so I tried to think of other genres. And stuck to the 80s. 😂

The Toxic Avenger is too much fun, a b-movie blast that hits just the right tone, providing both ridiculous laughs and ridiculous gore. Peppered with disgusting flourishes and even a little bit of heart. Top ten flick of the year for me.

Viewed only as a thrilling reimagining of Kurosawa’s High and Low, Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest might play a little uneven … but as a Spike Lee joint it’s highly entertaining, with great turns from Washington, A$AP Rocky, and, especially, Jeffrey Wright. Visually stunning, great soundtrack. 👍

Despite my aversion to most body horror, I had a good time with #Together. As creepy and squirm-inducing as expected, it’s also a darkly comic tale about the toxicity of codependent relationships that’s not wallowing in its more disgusting traits in place of a thoughtful story.

#sheridesshotgun is my favorite movie of 2025 to date. It’s a solid action-thriller. But what drives the movie to greater heights is Ana Sophia Heger, as Polly, the young girl caught in the middle of the intrigue. The character is so authentic … “Polly” is phenomenal and this is her movie.

Yep; fans of the game have specific expectations. For All Mankind sounds more interesting of the two, imo. I need to check out an episode.

Singin’ in the Rain takes on Sound of Music in today’s musicals tournament championship. SoM likely wins which I don’t understand. 🫤

Fans of Talk to Me will enjoy the director’s follow-up #BringHerBack, an intriguing, brutal tale that will hold your interest. Still, the movie fails to deliver the emotional weight of the superior ‘23 film. A certain character should have been our Mia, but we’re left cold/alone.

A generic riff on the franchise, #KarateKidLegends is a rushed affair that still manages to feel padded with pointless subplots and side characters. It’s an amiable enough diversion, but I don’t know why you wouldn’t just watch an episode of Cobra Kai instead.

A psychopath runs a ‘swim with the sharks’ tourist attraction that proves all too real for some customers. I’m not a big fan of ‘captive victim’ flicks but #DangerousAnimals was a terrific surprise at last night’s mystery movie screening. Suspenseful and fun, check it out!

Big holiday weekend kicking off with #Friendship today. #Mission:Impossible tomorrow and #LiloandStitch Sunday.

Clown in a Cornfield is a solid, above average modern slasher. A handful of scenes are genuinely hilarious and it evokes a classic slasher vibe early. I was a bit disappointed as it progressed, and with its reveal, but had a fun time - most horror fans will.

I was as bored as I’ve ever been at the theater during the first 30 minutes of #Warfare. Then there’s an explosion and I spent the next hour grimacing as we watched the unit deal with gruesome leg injuries to 2 soldiers. I was impressed with the real life soldiers … the movie’s a chore.

#TheAmateur starts strong suggesting we’re in for a thrill ride given its trailer action. Turns out those highlights are as good as it gets, and while there is some intrigue, it drags too often to be saved by a final showdown that can’t match the earlier set-pieces. Okay but could have been better.

Caught #TheFriend yesterday, sort of a thinking man’s dog movie revolving around the suicide of a literary icon and how his friends, family, and best friend “Apollo,” a towering Great Dane, deal with their loss. Murray and Watts are great but “Bing,” as the grief stricken Apollo, steals the show

Titled after Too $hort’s song of the same name, #FreakyTales features the ‘80s rapper in what feels like an attempt to fuse the spirit of the California rap and punk scenes of that decade with Repo Man and various Tarantino movies. If any of these appeal to you don’t miss it.

I’ve seen no baseball yet, save for my own line-up mistakes. 😕😂

Unicorn, Woman/Yard, and Working Man all getting middling to poor reviews. Disappointing! I’ll still see all of them, though. Maybe this weekend.

Latest tournament … a good one I can’t believe hadn’t been done yet; Bond movies.

Had a blast at tonight’s #Novocaine screening. Simple premise, tight plot, suspenseful and fun … it rivals Companion for my favorite of ‘25 so far. Jack Quaid carries this one.

I would recommend the new Captain America release to fans of super hero flicks and Marvel movies in particular. Not sure why the reviews are mixed. I thought it was perfectly fine.

And there is a post credits scene, of course. 👍
