Spain looks a LOT better if you consider all Clean Energy.

One missing element for Spain is battery storage - but it looks like growth in this area may accelerate over the rest of the decade.
modoenergy.com/research/jun...

BESS will allow Spain to increase solar share by at least another 10%.

Note: for comparison, below is a chart for the same week in 2021.
Huge change in four short years.

Interesting to see that solar now shows up in second place for hourly fuel share across the US.

Currently, only a few hours a week, but let's see how this changes over the coming years.

Dan, thanks for showing this.

It prompted me to look up the same week for last year. Much better.

Note: the Western US also has 3,600 MW of coal retiring in 2025.
September 24, 2025 at 4:37 PM
This may be true for the US, but the Western US continues to lower its fossil fuel usage at a steady pace.

The estimate for 2025 is based on the data reported thru July.

Note: Swedish exports of electricity were equal to about 20% of its total generation over the last 12 months.

Up substantially vs prior 12 months.

EDF recently reported #nuclear output numbers for France for Q1 - 2025.

102.7 TWh up 6.4% Y-Y. Good results.

Nuclear output could surpass 400 TWh in 2025 - for the first time since 2015.

Oil prices...

How low can they go?

2) Poland has plans for three nuclear reactors to come online in 2036. In the meantime, they should continue to rapidly build out their home-grown wind and solar.

#energysky

Poland could easily have 2/3 of its electricity based on solar/wind BEFORE nuclear joins the party.

Check out some great info on the recent ERCOT fact sheet, including over 30GW of installed solar and a solar penetration record of 56.6% in March 2025.

Below are some numbers supporting John's comment.

Also:

1) Solar/wind are faster than demand - big deal!
2) Nuclear will start contributing more during the rest of the decade.
3) If China has a down year economically (2025/2026), clean energy will displace a lot of coal.

New record for solar on @californiaiso.bsky.social - CAISO

Solar generation goes over 20,000 MW for the first time!
New record = 20,818 MW at 10:55 am on April 11th.

A big jump from the previous record - 19,624 MW.

Note: demand at 10:55 am was 19,217 MW - so solar provided over 100% of load!

Here is an unusual stat that occurred for the first time in March.

Looking at US real-time grid numbers:
www.eia.gov/electricity/...

Solar is now regularly the 2nd highest source of hourly electricity across the US.

Units=MW
1) Gas - 137,545
2) Solar - 91,879
3) Nuclear - 80,832
4) Coal - 69,215

Ric,
I am on the road - and was "off the grid" so to speak 😀 earlier.
It looks like prices spiked between 8:35 and 9:20 am - I am not sure why.
Batteries were still discharging, and it looks like they did respond somewhat - note the bump starting at 8:45 am in the @gridstatus.io chart below.

It was a great day for renewables on the ERCOT grid yesterday as they set a new record-high share of generation - 76% at 2:40 pm!

If you throw in nuclear share - clean energy provided 87% of TX electricity at that time.

March 3, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Natural gas generation stayed below 1GW on the CAISO grid - @californiaiso.bsky.social for over 7 hours yesterday.

California has multiple co-generation gas plants, including some at refineries, making it unlikely that gas generation can be reduced much further.

Until these plants are gone.

Utility-scale battery capacity is exploding in the US - growing by 66% in 2024 to over 26,000 MW of total battery cap.

As a reference, the demand on the US grid (lower 48) is ~ 490,000 MW right now - 7:00 PM(EST) on a holiday Monday.

Note: The average duration of these batteries is about 3 hours.

Yeah... Finland has been a net importer of electricity for years, mostly from Sweden.

It should flip to being an exporter over the next few years.
February 17, 2025 at 11:00 PM
Clean electricity share continues to grow in Finland. Expect wind/solar to jump again in 2025.

February 17, 2025 at 4:58 PM
Fossil fuel share of electricity continued to drop in Spain during 2024. Expect another fall in 2025. Europe's clean energy continues to grow.

February 15, 2025 at 6:35 PM
French #nuclear started 2025 with an increase in nuclear generation.

Let's see if France can "grow" 20-30 TWh in 2025 as it continues to bring under maintenance plants back online.

2025 should be another good year for #cleanenergy in Europe.
