Paid our respects to @enricovillanueva.bsky.social, our banker & economist friend who suddenly passed away on Feb 25 at the young age of 53. Tomorrow he will be laid to rest at a columbarium inside UPLB. We will miss you and your thoughtful takes on the economy, Rico!

Here's my summary of the shady reallocations in the 2025 budget. Pork projects were inserted in the DPWH budget, crowding out important funds for social protection, education, and health. Foreign-funded projects were also relegated to unprogrammed funds. All this in the run-up to the 2025 polls. #PH

And that's a wrap for my first ever Martial Law Economics (Econ 118) class at UPSE! What a journey it has been!
A key takeaway is that studying the past allows us to make so much sense of the present. Another is that we can avoid many problems in the future if only we learned more about our past.

So proud of my teammates in the UP Admissions Evaluation Committee! The University Council decided to defer a decision on the new formula for admissions, but I think this just needs further elaboration and explanation so that most UPD faculty can be convinced of the new, evidence-based methodology.
