Man in the black and white flag mask biked in circles around the Zohran Mamdani presser in Jackson Heights this morning calling the mayoral candidate “a terrorist.” After a minute or two of that, the muscular man screamed at him to get out of here with his bigoted shit.

But Mamdani isn’t the only one who’s changed. The movement has all but ended, and there’s more of a consensus, even on the council’s left flank, on building the new jails as part of closing Rikers Island.
October 3, 2025 at 1:35 PM
Conditions on Rikers Island are horrible for detainees and correction officers. Managing and then closing Rikers Island would be one of the thorniest issues for Mamdani to work through if elected mayor, but it’s one that hasn’t gotten much attention.

Layla Law-Gisiko filed in Tony Simone's Assembly district. It could be open, since Simone is considering the special election for Hoylman-Sigal's Senate seat, or the open primary for Nadler's House seat.
Law-Gisiko finished second to Simone in the open #AD75 primary in 2022.

One single write-in vote was enough to elect Yamid Jaramillo a Democratic district leader in East Harlem:

The BOE voted resoundingly to approve the ballot proposals, in a blow to Speaker Adrienne Adams and the City Council. Only one vote in opposition.

The result of Rev. Rubén Díaz's meeting? "It was unanimous... they all asked for Adams to pull out," he tells me.

"Because the polls show that Adams has no chance... We don’t even know if we could beat Mamdani. But at least if he’s out, we may have an opportunity.”

The #NY12 poll also tested favorability for AIPAC, a source shares. Notable, since the pro-Israel group’s political arm is likely to play in the race. And Micah Lasher would be a potential beneficiary.

Seeing a #NY12 poll for what seems to be for Micah Lasher. Asks favorability for Lasher, Carolyn Maloney, Bores, Menin, Nadler, Bloomberg and Hochul… also message tests for Lasher, and asks for positions on Israel and Palestine.

Credit to PIX 11's Dan Mannarino for asking the mayor about his trip to Florida amid drop-out rumors - and then noting that no, we actually can't just take his word on things:
September 3, 2025 at 2:34 PM
“Mayor Adams is in Florida for the day attending to a personal matter. He will return this evening,” the mayor’s office says after I asked.
Campaign spokesperson also says it’s personal, and not campaign related and he’s not fundraising.

Zohran Mamdani is on McGuinness Blvd in Greenpoint with local electeds who are contrasting the Democratic nominee to Eric Adams, whose top aide allegedly was bribed to kill a street safety redesign here and Andrew Cuomo “who only cares about driving his muscle car around,” CM Restler says.

"If that was me accepting a bribe for something, I'd remember," Ingrid Lewis-Martin's lawyer recounts her saying - downplaying the alleged $2,500 payoff from Gina Argento as money exchanged between longtime friends.

Ingrid Lewis-Martin's defense is that she was simply "a fixer," helping people with city bureaucracy. The alleged bribes are *relatively* minor, which is why Bragg's office is seeking lower level felony charges.

I’m on @spectrumnewsny1.bsky.social this morning to talk about Chipgate, coming City Hall corruption indictments, Cuomo’s hope of a Trump bump and more in NYC politics.

But obviously it’s one thing to sign onto a bill as a backbencher when you know it has little chance of moving and another thing to champion legislation as a newly elected mayor who would have far greater influence in Albany than ever before.
August 16, 2025 at 10:58 PM
Will Zohran Mamdani push to legalize sex work as mayor?
“My focus in Albany is going to be on delivering on the agenda that I ran on… one that I'm excited to work with legislators and the governor on, because I know it aligns with the same focus we've seen in Albany around affordability.”

New York should look into cutting off electricity to 26 Federal Plaza and other federal buildings, AM Robert Carroll said today.
“It’s federal land, as they like to articulate very often” to any official who tries to visit. “So great. We don’t have a duty then to provide power.”

Andrew Cuomo’s going back to the Hamptons this weekend. It’ll be, at least, his fourth trip there since losing the primary.

Eric Adams made a rare appearance in Room 9 earlier, briefly visiting the press room with David Paterson as his spokesperson Todd Shapiro repeatedly says “this is not a Q&A.”

“We have a communist running for the mayor of New York. And I wish him well. I may have to deal with him… Shockingly, he won the primaries,” Donald Trump says about Zohran Mamdani as an aside when asked if he'd meet with Schumer and Jeffries to discuss the budget.

Will he come back?
“We’ll see,” Goldman says. “I’m going to keep the pressure on… I have very specific statutory right under the law… it’s a blatant violation of the law. We are in court right now suing the Department of Homeland Security for that purpose.”
August 13, 2025 at 3:01 PM
The federal Bureau of Prisons told Rep. Dan Goldman yesterday they couldn’t accommodate his requested tour of MDC jail — which DHS is reportedly using to hold more than 100 immigrants. He tried again anyway today, a week after he was similarly barred from an oversight visit. And didn’t get in.
