It's a very apt comparison, wish I'd thought of it when I was praising The Power Fantasy. As a big fan of Rising Stars it's an incredible compliment (and an excuse to talk about Rising Stars, hence the summoning).

Rising Stars mentioned, I've been summoned

Project Justice was my white whale for years - wasn't able to get it when I was a kid so had to circle back round as an adult and was 1000% worth it. We let Project Justice down, not the other way around.

Neutral IS interesting and I do want to try that. When we're both in neutral and someone whiffs and gets counterattacked - that's fun. Back in neutral and a trap gets sprung - that's also fun. Parrying a fireball and rushing in? Yep, fun!

Combos are the boring part, both to execute and experience.

Wow, you have no idea how long I've been looking for something like this - harder to find them one expects! A year. There, now you know how long it's been. Thanks for putting this together!

I might laugh but I also connect and that's the most important thing. I've failed before and I'll fail again but I hope other people at least appreciate that I tried without tearing others down in the process. "Everyone sucks at this, I can do it better" is rarely a good foundation for creativity.

I LOVE terrible movies, unironically. Watching someone attempt to make something they want to be amazing and just fail is beautiful. They put their entire heart into it and tried their best and it just doesn't work but dammit they're trying - I love it. If the effort is earnest, I'm a supporter!

Also, the art is absolutely bringing the heat! I quite enjoy the touch that people before and after transformation look like the same person despite their differing appearances. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean but I bet it's even harder to do. That being pulled off here is super impressive.

To close the faves of 2024 list let's talk about Lawful from @gregpak.net and Diego Galindo. I bought this because I trust Pak and that trust was well-placed - this is an unsung hero of the year. It's nuanced and the characters are fully understandable even when they're wrong, which for me is ideal.

Next to talk about for fave of 2024 is Jorge Corona and @skottieyoung.bsky.social's Ain't No Grave. 5 issues of action-packed and character driven awesomeness. This team keeps knocking it out of the park and '24 was no exception. At this point if anyone on this team is on a book it's be a must read!

Nice House on the Sea likely needs no introduction. A direct sequel to the previous Nice House book, @jamesthefourth.bsky.social and @amartinezbueno.bsky.social continue to absolutely crush it. The intrigue is intriguing, the writing top tier, and the art is utterly fascinating. Top shelf stuff!

Last but not least on the "talked about before, remains excellent" list is Vicarious from @thatryanparrott.bsky.social and Eleonora Carlini. After only 3 issues this story has already taken us for quite a ride and I love it. In an era of decompression I appreciate the pacing of this book. No brakes!

Another book I've mentioned before, One for Sorrow from @mckelvie.bsky.social is amazing. Only 1 issue has been released as I write this and it's so good the whole series makes "fave of 2024" list. Stellar writing, amazing art, intrigue, old-timey goodness. The gif is me waiting for more (no rush!).
