Yes. They were friends first, and then decided what the hell. They were both single at the time. There was no reason why not.

I didn’t hate it either. They had good chemistry together and it made sense at the time for two good friends to see what would happen.

It was supposed to be the entire “Season of Hell”. The writers were excitedly coming up with stories and such, then B*rman said it would be too expensive and told them they were only getting a two-parter. That’s why Before and After makes no sense. It was intended for a full season storyline.
