This series from @jbkrell.bsky.social was great for Vogtle. Would be awesome to see a Summer version of this series. My gut tells me that will become important soon

Last week @mshellenberger.bsky.social shared a “documentary” arguing offshore wind will drive right whales extinct + Trump can stop it.

I reviewed the film. 🧵

First he makes a brash causal conflation. All whale deaths of all causes for a whole coastline = wind makes right whales extinct.

A really important discussion on microreactors -- hitting the two big downsides of this tiny reactors: shielding and burnup.
In which we discuss needing 5 feet of high-density concrete radiation shielding on all sides of any nuclear reactor, even a tiny one. Neutron leakage & fuel costs are also constraints on microreactors. They're still awesome, and I want more, but we must face facts. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wye...

Gravelines units 1-6 in France have a capacity of 5460 MW and made 31.6 TWh of zero-carbon 24/7 clean-air electricity in 2017 on an absolutely miniscule land footprint. That could power 3.2 million average households. Serialized large reactors are almost unfathomable.
