Former CS Prof, currently piano student...absorbed, sometimes frustrated. I sometimes revert to my former life by fiddling with my army of raspberry pi's. Sometimes get out birding. VR has dwindled, piano seems to be taking over my life.
Here's video for all to see concerning the current risks that AI presents. The base is the series of events surrounding xAI and the grok account on X. Kind of scary when I think of the possibilities. AI needs some sort of guardrails until a secure point is reached.

Re-reading Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism by Chögyam Trungpa, an excerpt:

But we were not satisfied and we thought, "Since this one object makes my room so beautiful, if I get more antiques, my room will be even more beautiful." So we began to collect, and the end result was chaos.

My life.

Somehow I ended up on a substack mailing list and I'm beginning to be thankful for it. The catchphrase on this one was "You are a puddle, music is rain”. When I looked further I discovered a delightful list of "25 Unconventional Meditation Prompts". Check it out,

Since dropping my Washington Post subscription I've been drifting around various news sources. I've discovered a good one in AP News.

For those who delve into the linux world, I want to say that the Brave Search AI is pretty helpful. I found that it was a great time saver and more relevant than the AI in other search engines that I tried...uh, a non-comprehensive search of AI helpers.

In defense of CPB and PBS, towards the end of the interview. Thoughtful and it actually would be great if people thoughtfully considered what they said...it feels that frequently people don't.

A "canary in the coal mine" situation but not enough people seem to care. The birdwatchers out there have certainly noticed, but they really don't have a place at the table.

Went to see Nickel Boys last night, one of the VTIFF features. It was very good, one of those movies that after viewing you say "I need to see that again", and then again after that viewing like a bouncing ball absorbing more of the movie after each bounce, never seemingly to get it all in.

I often get sleepy during my afternoon practice session at the keyboard, especially in combination with a pot of hot tea. Here apparently are some pluses that might occur in the nap that breaks up the session.

After canceling my (re-)subscription to The Washington Post...due to another Bezos move...I subscribed to the free version of The Contrarian (contrarian.substack.com). Really nice site. For me their biggest deficit is the hard news side. They don't seem to have all of reporter resources WaPo had.
