There is virtually no difference between subsidizing insurance premiums and sending money directly to households.

Any household who chooses to use that money on anything but maintaining their (now more expensive) insurance premium is taking a very risky bet. And we’ll end up bailing many out

This is from July, but new to me. As a software engineer (Though not a New Yorker) there is a lot that resonates, especially this:

"They grew up being told that education was the path to a stable, meaningful life."

Maybe he should be "proud and delighted" to:

- pay his fair share of taxes
- increase his employees pay
- pay for universal health care

Dear Apple - would it be possible for you to require app developers to identify which notifications are ads so we can disable that? Actually. Wrong question. I'm a software developer -- I KNOW this is possible.

Why aren't you doing anything about it?

This article very much understates that the "collapse" of Jack Smith's case was very much about a biased and corrupt judge.

How Jack Smith’s strongest case against Donald Trump collapsed
Seeking to get the classified documents case to a jury before the 2024 election, the special counsel made a fateful decision that some in his office saw as a misstep.

How in the world did the Pittsburgh fucking Steelers allow 35 points? It's not the worst thing that's happened, but this fourth quarter has been a travesty

Congress needs to do their job. Impeach and remove the criminal president
He orders extrajudicial killings. He sent troops into our cities. He terrorizes citizens with ICE raids. He raised taxes without congressional approval. He has ruined American farmers and ranchers. He plans to starve the vulnerable. He demolished our house.

Remove him from office.

Russians destroyed a third wind turbine in Kramatorsk this week.

It’s no secret that their strategy is to terrorize civilians until we break. But their attempts to plunge Ukraine into darkness and cold on the brink of winter deserve far more media attention.

"America is cooked."

I hear a lot of people saying that right now.

And, I admit, I often find that showing up as the trending story inside my head lately.

I also know it’s crap fiction born out of excessive doomscrolling and a lack of fresh air…

That didn't take long. (Also worth noting -- the headline on the article has been updated to "Hamas Attacks Israeli Troops", but the widget still seems to have an earlier headline "Israel strikes Gaza")

There is really only one question society has to answer about how we pay for health care:

If somebody shows up at the hospital and will die without medical care, but can be saved, do you provide medical care whether or not they can pay?

(The answer is "yes")

We need to vote in a pro-democraxy majority willing to Impeach and remove judges for making grossly unconstitutional decisions. Like ones granting presidential immunity or allowing president's to ignore the 5th and 8th amendments

Part of the problem is our continued framing of politics as "Right" and "Left" as if they are the only two teams and the two teams are united. Both groups are actually very diverse but once a person starts identifying with one of the two teams, they start to cheer for that team no matter what
