What? It’s typically at least $75 for installation, plus $100 or so deposit, plus at least $50/month for the leasing fee, plus a required service and maintenance fee. This all varies by jurisdiction but it’s notoriously expensive in every place I’ve ever heard of/practiced.

True, but Interlock is incredibly expensive for poor people who often have to drive. Any PD can tell you horror stories about the cycle of costs, job loss, etc that can flow from a DUI. The costs of non-enforcement exist but the costs of compliance exist too and it’s ok to worry about both.

The thing is, judicial restraint is probably MOST appropriate in situations like these, where there’s nothing preventing the democratic branches from fighting an issue out (eg, who controls which agencies)! It’s like FN 4, only the exact opposite…

Real ones just buy the books and drive their partners to becoming justifiably upset about both the clutter and the book bills. Ask me how I know.

God, don’t give them ideas…

Agreed on both counts, but all the incentives run the other way - it’s easier to cover content-free stuff, and it flatters the journalistic self-conception as objective reporters who don’t take “sides” by actually describing the reality of policy.

But now im confused as to who was doing the gutting and what “total control” means. Bc the GOP majority Supreme Court did the gutting (at least the Medicaid expansion part), which the Dems were manifestly not in control of.

Ok, so now you’re changing your argument to “they couldn’t repeal it but it doesn’t matter anyway.”
October 20, 2025 at 9:40 PM
I mean they famously failed to repeal the very legislation we’re arguing about! Sort of a weird issue on which to stake this claim.
