It really is something of an enigmatic relationship.

The trees stretch and brush a yellowing sky.
Peering through their gaps,
a warm setting sun paints the sanctuary we used to love in kaleidoscope colours.
I come here sometimes
to hear the soft echo of your voice
because it's the only #place
where I still feel your heart beating.

I fall asleep each night nestled in death's embrace.
A #dream so bloody damp sheets cling to my panic.
Torrential waves of flickering reality lap around my body
recklessly thrown to the Styx.
I fear the unrest
but every waking breath
rivals each #nightmare
and never a reprieve for my soul.

His gaze used to pierce through the #noise in the world around me.
Warm eyes searched crowded rooms to find mine
and I knew I was safe—
an angel silently orbiting me.
Now all I hear is a cacophony
and I am invisible.
Where did you go, angel?
Why won't you come back?

Have you ever loved so deeply that losing it is poison draining the #life from your veins?
Hearing the words "you're not special" break every bone
and snap every tendon,
forcing limp spirit to choke on memories,
questioning if the wine had turned bitter
or if it was always designed to kill.

But wasn't it nice?
You soared above the reaping of your haunted shadows
because my heart was a foothold
used to vault a callous soul
into the hallowed halls of love
while wings sharp as knives
cut me to my knees,
bringing me to my #death.

It used to be blurred, incoherent colours every day.
A cacophony of crooked melodies echoed in my mind,
latching on to my future
and dragging my past wherever I went.
Then there was you.
Quiet,
measured,
you.
#Time stopped when I met you
and so did the train car
hurtling me toward a wreck.

His touch was like spring blossoms floating peacefully through the air.
Light and gentle but with purpose,
an unexpected sweetness made her #insatiable.
Her soul yearned to cross beyond the threshold to meet his
and learn every part of him.
She wished to know his heart
and rest in its glow.

I once met a man
whose heart breaks for the world.
Under each line he drew full of #passion and #inspiration
was a soul tortured by grief
from callous shots in the night
and trickle down effects
like blood dripping down the walls of a hallowed cathedral
where Gods decide the price of a life.

Love used to be lonely and bitter,
like the bite of Winter in the night
but then I met an angel.
He cupped my face tenderly,
lacing a red tether of #indivisibility and evermore around my wrist.
Sometimes the nights are still cold
so I tug at that tether
and feel warmth deep in my soul.

I thought the sun crashing into the horizon would bring #liberation.
My skin is saved from pelting heat
but I continue to burn.
I invited you deep into my soul.
My scars bleed with the memories
of a love that cauterised trauma
but seared my facade with even more wounds.

Betrayal changed him
A heart once open
Now impenetrable

He shut them down
The “after” women
With his own betrayals
If they got too close
To the warmth of his core

If only she hadn’t turned him #ice cold

Usually the weather was quite temperate
but when he looked at her with #ice outlining a deep, knowing gaze,
rain wept from the clouds.
They stood opposite sides of the river,
watching memories flood the banks
and feelings wash downstream
away from the forest they grew.

I bundled 364 dreams into my arms.
Stuffing them into a bottle,
I watched my past wave it out to sea
but I clutch on to the 365th.
White knuckles struggle to keep the memory of sparkling brown eyes from slipping
because I never knew the #resolution of us
and neither do you.

I used to think you loved me.
Not the kind of polite, pretty love
with lofty grace and #decorum made for the dinner party at your family's house—
but the kind that was raw
and deep,
where broken people chased treetops in the great forest of dreams.

I was wrong.
You never loved me.

When the sun dared peak over the horizon,
a #silhouette came into view.
It looked like fairy tales and dreams
with an innocent promise of forever in its eyes.
My feet shuffled under me,
leaping toward the figure.
I reached out to catch it
but instead all I held
was my past.

reluctant passengers
on windswept suburban platforms
we are waiting at the threshold
while inter-cities thunder through
their galaxy of lights a storm
of understanding, but our boot tips
press down hard against
the yellow safety lines

A cathedral—
cold and hollow with halls of fractured stone.
The second I let another in,
walls begin to shake.
Figures of greatness crash before my feet.

A fragile heart is not meant to be the maker of marble statues in a demon's domain,
for I cannot meet the #challenge of his lashings.

The #challenge of the song,
whose lyrics wear
the saddening hues of autumn,

The ache in the melody
sticks in his throat,
mid-song,

His voice trembles,
Like a dying leaf in the wind,

And falters

Crushed by the weight of grievance

In a forest designed with chasms and pathways wandering in all directions,
grief has a difficult time
trying to escape.
Loss is not a linear pilgrimage
and finds the edge of a cliff
long before it meets the #threshold of release.

I tread the halls
with quiet grace,
I belong
to those I love.

My throne rests
beside their hearts,
I need not
say much.

A careful gaze,
a gentle purr,
betrays me not
As I roam
lightly,
they hold
my quiet soul.

Forever bound,
this love is mine
a loyal heart
in feline form,
I linger
everywhere.

Sometimes the sun falls
Behind the horizon
And light fades
On this landscaping

Like you and I
Where time
Is not linear
to die
to live
and born evermore
