Learn from Mr Douglass. His words from 1852 are not irrelevant today but are, sadly, hauntingly more accurate than they should be in this modern age.

For decades, I've had a tradition of reading Frederick Douglass' caustically eloquent Fourth of July speech on this day. "How can enslaved people possibly celebrate Independence Day?" he asks.

This reading of that speech by James Earl Jones is perfect.

And it's so relevant to our current moment!

BREAKING: A fucking ICE agent rammed into a car full of U.S. citizens—then fled the scene. LAPD confirms it. This wasn’t a routine stop. This was state-sanctioned racial profiling turned felony hit-and-run. ICE is operating like a gang now.
