Former U.S. Ambassador, retired career Foreign Service officer, still writing that long-delayed biography of Tudor humanist Mildred Cooke Cecil, helped by the cat. Not as diplomatic as I once was.
Necessary timeline cleanse: Molly helping to make the guest room bed. Or not.

Glorious “Ragtime” tonite at Lincoln Center.

“Go out and tell our story to your daughters and your sons
Make them hear you
Make them hear you

And tell them, in our struggle
We were not the only ones
Make them hear you
Make them hear you .”

It took 7 weeks for Adelita Grijalva, on the left in this photo, to be sworn in as AZ CD-7’s representative. She will serve our neighbors well.

The guy on the right? Well, he’s the feckless Speaker of the House who could easily be replaced by the Pillsbury dough boy.

Too much talk about cats tonite (to which I have contributed). Molly tells me pictures are better than words.

Molly and I send our best thoughts to you. Losing member of our fur family is so hard but your wonderful posts show how loved Pancakes was — and that’s what you must hold onto.

Sunspot is warm, there’s a catnip cactus, and the human is finally home: what more could a cat ask for?

She is waiting for her treats.

Until this administration willfully destroyed USAID, we had the best disaster response team in the world in OFDA, the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance.

Also, thanks to this administration, any relief effort will be under resourced—and staffed by federal employees who not being paid.

The American Foreign Service Association @afsaorg.bsky.social offers an alternative draft to the insipid message that USAID employees received as the agency died today. We will regret USAID’s loss —and soon.

A heartfelt thank you to my many USAID colleagues over the years and to all who served.

Today is the 5th anniversary of Molly’s homecoming. As covid ravaged the country in 2020, her original family could no longer home her and she unexpectedly came to me. Fat and sassy, Molly may well be the most loving of all the cats who have owned me over the years.

Our pets bless us.
