Lover of transformable bots of many stripes - currently on a kick with Beast Wars-inspired organics, but that can change at the drop of a hat. Customer service agent, freelance artist, and general nutjob.
My room-mate and I both lost our job contracts, and it doesn't look like there are going to be any renewals. Unfortunately utilities will be due soon and we're strapped.

I've started a Ko-Fi and will be putting up a com sheet soon - I hate to ask, but if anyone is able:

One hundred percent! A lot of the best Beast Wars toys never made it to the cartoon. I still feel like a lot could have been done with the Fuzors concept. Considering Air Hammer already fits Maori myth, I feel like they could have evolved into legit mythical beasts.

Finally, here's the next in my expanding list of Mythicons: the gruesome Grootslang, the leader of the African team! An Adse, Nini Nanka, and Popobawa will follow. I didn't get to his tech specs, but his motto is "If you want power, don't collect servants, collect favors. Debtors rarely revolt."

Aiming to recolor it to the trainer variant? I always called it the hot-wing Valkyrie!

I enjoyed it, although it is very 90s. The movie and TV series are radically different beasts—the characters and setting change drastically. Overall, the series is better, but the mecha are mechanical; in the movie, Escaflowne is a biomech bordering on being a Lovecraftian god.

The first one to come to mind is Aura Battler Dunbine (insectoid); the movie version of Escaflown is a Biomech, as are the mecha in Evangelion. You could argue Genocyber and the Giant Guyvers would fit as well. Heh, my little setting includes Biomechs, some Kaiju sizes, some smaller.

Semi-chibi Eva units that transform Anno's profound depression into a shiny plastic Happy Meal? The visual design on these goofy little things goes hard, and it's hilarious.

I picture them doing a cheesy stop-motion dance to the original Eva OST while Pen-Pen stares in abject confusion.

You're giving me flashbacks to mornings in San Francisco. There was this little cafe I'd visit before work that had a carrot cake square and Cappuccino combo. I'd draw my bot schematics there. Heh, here in Kansas, all I've got is gas stations for 50 miles in each direction - but I can afford rent!

Ooh, why didn't I know about this batty bot! I thought my attempt to turn the lost generation Beast Wars Optimus into a new character in the form of a transmetal was the first fruit bat bot. What a fun looking character!

Forever.

I adore color palettes that have that vibe—vibrant purples & blues sparking against pinks & yellows. Too bad it's almost always villains! Sure, thematic colors make it easy to track who's who; nonetheless, it still compels me to design characters with an "evil" look who are more than meets the eye!

Only one of these is relatively new, but they were all a lot of fun!

G2 deserves the revisit. I think the initial flood of neon repaints meant that people didn't notice how much innovation happened in G2 until after it left the shelves. Propeller planes, speed boats, vintage Hot Rods, triple changing stealth bombers. And of course, more Beast Wars stuff please!😜

Sweet, thanks! I did character design for an indie game studio (that went under) and have been working on mecha and transformers inspired stuff lately.
December 5, 2024 at 8:53 PM
That looks amazing -she's adorable! Is that 3-D printed or did he build it from the ground up. Heh, have my own designs I'm trying to figure out how to get made someday but they are a bit...complicated.

Transforming Piasa bird anyone? Here's the leader of the North American Mythicon squad, and the first new art I've done in months! I tried to integrate a tech spec and more about her character. I'm hoping splitting up the modes helps the images stand out better!

That reminds me. I just started trying to teach myself a little 3D modelling and I thought a fun project would be to try to upgrade some old converters designs with better proportions, articulation, and transformations. Once the schematics are done, I'll scan them and try to use them as guides.

Sweet!

Obviously followed. Is there a chance I could get added? I'm never sure if it's appropriate to ask, but I've been working on a post Beast Wars AU and, let's face it, none of these guys have a chance of ever getting made without enough eyeballs on them.
November 30, 2024 at 1:29 AM
Does it count if it's only one of the things I do? My commissions and projects have been more mecha related lately, but I have a pretty dark sci-fi horror thing I've been trying to find an excuse to get back to for a while!
November 27, 2024 at 3:42 PM
If there's a spot, I've got the mecha!
November 20, 2024 at 9:23 PM
I've never fully understood that. I had one person claim it was because of the boring color scheme, but he's got a blue one with yellow stars that's quite striking and he could pull off the Blue Angel look easy! It might be a remolding issue - he's kind of the opposite of the average seeker.

Hah, I've been thinking about Transmetals so much lately, it's almost like my hyper-focus just willed an episode into existence, LOL!😜 I need to get back to that stint of designing Beast Wars characters that were never officially Transmetalized. I mean, Manterror could always be creepier...
November 19, 2024 at 10:50 PM
I told him the same thing. We're masterpiece Converters Stans on this site! Yellow gridlines and funky 80's tech details forever! 😜
November 18, 2024 at 8:29 PM
What, Transformers? Converters are where it's at - they're just begging for a modern update! Everybody loves those funky pinks and over the top 80's fake tech details!
November 18, 2024 at 7:41 PM
If you see this, post a #Transformer

Wait - I could have been using hashtags the whole time? Lesson learned! Well, I hope Primal's batty Transmetal cousin counts.
