If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

After all these deaths are essentially all preventable. We know what the answers are, we simply lack the political will to solve the problem or even honestly state that it has obvious simple solutions.

To ignore gun violence as a public health problem is to ignore a leading killer of young people, disproportionately young people of color, > 40k deaths a year and > 100k injuries a year.

This is actually the space where we could have *the greatest impact* on health for predominantly young people.

And for every person who dies, rule of thumb there’s 2-4 people chronically injured or disabled by the disease. For every gun shot death there are > 2x as many nonfatal injuries with associated chronic morbidity, disability, mental health impact, job loss, increased drug abuse etc.

It’s wild to say they need to go back to the traditional mission of the CDC, when the 1 infectious disease that cracks the top ten they don’t even believe in treatments for! They want natural immunity and no vaccines. Well, thats what those black squares are. Thats the cost of *natural* immunity.

This figure is a large part of why I’m a trauma surgeon. Trauma primarily cuts short young lives. Something is going to get you, mortality is 100% after all, but you want one of the things that kills you at 80, not 17. Prior to COVID few infectious diseases cracked the top 10.

Cuts to the study of how to mitigate gun violence show the devaluation of black lives. We’ve largely defeated indfectious disease prior to COVID. The disease that’s most likely to kill you at any age before about 50 is trauma. Gun violence is a significant contributor to our low life expectancy.
