I live by one of the main Target pilot stores — usually every year it changes entirely to reflect some new layout or design. It hasn’t changed in two years now. Shit is dire.

Oh man, I just spent Thanksgiving wondering about this because people kept seeing the ads for the new one and even my movie going relatives were like "They're still making those?"

At least when I was a teacher I always thought of part of my job as filling in the gaps when it came to kids who weren't getting stuff at home -- like basic empathy, etc.

It's always shocking to me how quickly education and tech is willing to jettison the humanities and personal development in favor of crunching numbers. Bummer of course is that the kids who come from these homes are the ones who aren't getting taught empathy there and need it the most!

It's the peril of having a game where you need to make content that's approachable and exciting for both new players and those who have been at it for two decades.

I mean it's an issue with all long-term games: reducing friction to increase new player counts rarely leads to enough new players to justify the frustration of existing players. Complexity is just one part of the equation for attracting new players.

I used to do Kendo and I remember walking down the street after class with my training sword and a cop pulled up and almost arrested me for carrying what I remember him calling a “class 2 baton” so I think it’s probably the same thing, but this is still insane.

I have a conservative uncle who relies on the VA for almost every part of his life and he still believes there’s no way somebody would be as evil as stuff like this. Just sheer disbelief that it’s possible. My buddy I have a bridge to sell you.

Not a Worst Ever, but I did have a college dormmate who was really into Counter-strike and had a replica of the knife that he slept with under his pillow and would bury in the cork board above his desk whenever he lost. That said he went home every weekend so, I tolerated it.
