Philz was one of my favorite coffee spots on earth. It was the place I brought my Parisian coworkers when I wanted to prove to them that coffee in France is universally shit.

But I will never ever spend another dime at Philz and my t-shirts and coffee mugs are going in the trash. Fuck the Jabers

@crooked.com first it was Ross Douthat and now @mcuban.bsky.social ? could be me being superstitious, but maybe don't let @jonlovett.bsky.social go on vacation anymore, because this week has been the worst I've seen at Crooked.

Just throwing this out there for any of my friends - anyone interested in BFF this year? The lineup is NUTS.

Reading now, but interested to see how this deals with the fact that LLMs don't have agency, while the people responsible who do are (mostly) not indifferent to the truth of their models' outputs.
““AI hallucinations”: We argue that these falsehoods, and the overall activity of large language models, is better understood as bullshit in the sense explored by Frankfurt (On Bullshit): the models are in an important way indifferent to the truth of their outputs.” link.springer.com/article/10.1...

My response to events since Jan 20 + constant worry about getting laid off went a little bit yolo last night. Bank account is mad AF and might have a heart attack at any moment but goddamn that was special.

My partner got me hooked on taskmaster so now obviously I want to see more things with Sue Perkins and fewer things with literally any other Brit.

Finally getting through Veilguard, about 25 hours in and very pleased! One thing I don't care for is the break in narrative to develop relationships with companions. I want to have all those quests and conversations, but I should feel special because I did those things.

Note to journalists: my clicks and subscription dollars for the next 4 years will be based solely on the ratio of 'what the administration does' to 'what the administration says' in your content.

BC goddamn I do not have time for bullshit like I did in 2016.

Always good to go back to first principles when you're standing on the precipice:

Sad about the Blake Lively v. Some Douchebag coverage turning into a pissing contest between rich celebrities.

The real story is how easy (and cheap) it is to buy truth in the social media age and how dangerous and disgusting all influencer marketing is.

#NC #SB382 is a tragedy and every single state senator who voted for it is selling out dozens of dead north carolinians for political power.

The state house votes on it this week. Call your reps.
NC lawmakers passed bill full of government changes. What's in it? • NC Newsline
Republican legislators in North Carolina fast-tracked a 131-page bill that Democrats say amounts to a 'power grab.' Here's what's in it.

I've been blessed and lucky enough to have 25 years under my belt at the same company. I honestly thought we were immune to most of the ups and downs in this business, but this year has proved me very very wrong.

2024 can bite my whole ass.

Without exception, every time. Even for someone like me whose career has been exclusively on the publishing side - very few people really know what it takes to get a game off the ground.
Every video game that gets launched is a small miracle.

Congrats to all the academics that stuck with it and finished a PhD and are making contributions.

Whatever kind of scholarship you're doing, just know there's at least one failed academic out there cheering you on!

Happy world #philosophy day!

I'm in a weird place where all the techies want to talk about is how their fav LLM scores higher on some arbitrary scale and the biz folks believe AI is a black box that makes unicorns and rainbows
