Like logistically, it'd just be a massive pain to have to contact every single one of your VAs and get them to record the words "pumpkin pie" just so that you can add a new item in for a 3 day event at thanksgiving. The voiced ping system just wouldn't have been implemented.

Yes I think the "thin end of the wedge" is about the only argument against it. From a workflow perspective I totally get why they've used it to fill in what would otherwise have just been unvoiced text.

From my understanding, they used ai to fill in the names of items in sentences that were otherwise fully voiced by VAs
e.g "I'm looking for a dampening coil"
Considering there's hundreds of unique loot items, & as a live service game they'll be reg adding more, I get it, from a workflow perspective

I reckon that fundamental tension is one of the best parts of the game.
'These folks have every incentive to murder me and loot my corpse, do I approach them or hide'
And then when people do turn out to be cool, despite having no in game reason to, I find that really reaffirming

Reckon the devs choice here wasn't between "use ai voice or hire voice actor", it was "use ai voice or have it text only". Because ya it's logistically difficult to have a live service game where you add a new item every few months and having to voice that item's name for every single character

To be fair the first mission impossible was actually pretty subtle, especially compared to the recent ones (which were basically exposition: the movie). A lot of the double dealing & betrayal stuff is communicated through cutaways and flashbacks and never verbally expressed. You had to pay attention

I am almost always a pacifist in this game, leave others be unless they mess with me.
But then the other day we saw another team just barely take down a bastion while we watched from a rocky outcrop above, and my whole team just kinda went...

I've lost the link, but just watched a Republican on Fox say "a hungry dog is an obedient dog" and if that's not the biggest ever case of saying the quiet part out loud...

Hundred percent. If a trailer tells you any of the plot beyond the first act, it's too much. Give me the setting, a few of the characters, and the call to action/complication. Not a peep after that.

My house actually has an automatic curtailment when the price goes negative, but this is also a really great policy intended to shift demand into those peak generation times.
As more homes also add battery storage this will be much less of an issue

It's really wild, we're giving the power away because we've actually built TOO MUCH household rooftop solar, and it's unbalanced the grid. Regulators didn't expect the massive uptake of homeowners putting solar on their roof and there isn't enough demand during the day to actually use it all
