Okay, awkward usage of “religions” aside, the author seems to be mostly just playing with maps. If I’m understanding him correctly, these denoms were chosen arbitrarily to illustrate the regional concentration of certain groups as “a function in part of the overlap of religion and community.”

Arrived in Berkeley!
I was not aware that this is a collection of essays. Assumed it was a monograph. Actually, I’m pleased that it’s several essays because it will be easier to commit to an essay here and an essay there while juggling several other books.
