I think it is pretty telling that no Jews anywhere appear to be confused about what this was.

The second time he was facing away, so it was harder for the camera to capture it, but it was exactly the same gesture: right hand over heart, snapped quickly up and to the right in a full, stiff-armed salute with a slight bending back of the wrist (as was deemed appropriate during the Third Reich).
