The Voyage of The Mimi (1984) is a film I watched in fifth grade and the only thing I remember from it is you have to take all your clothes off if somebody has hypothermia and some very crude plans for a solar desalination oven. The substitute teacher who played it for us smelled like Winston cigarettes and old beer.

Two years ago I made an ill advised road trip across the country solo, sleeping as little as I could in the cab of my truck at rest stops. The trip was doomed from the start, the power was out where I was trying to leave, a windstorm knocked trees down atop the building I slept in and across the driveway I had to drive down to leave. I had to chain and haul them away by myself, fueled only by dry cereal and cold instant coffee. And then the ice storm. It chased me across fifteen states. No matter how far I made it in the day, the ice storm caught me every time I stopped. I'd wake up, drive as far as I could, out into just enough warmth to thaw the thick rime ice off my fenders, rubbing my hands to bring the feeling back into them. One time I stopped to get food and while I waited for the mediocre chicken to be cooked it overtook me and I cursed the line chef as I blasted out into the maelstrom. I woke up in Nebraska, huddled in every piece of clothing I had packed, inside a sleeping bag and under two blankets, and I noticed the tip of one of my toes had gone peculiar colored. Burgundy. The texture of beef jerky. Frostbite, it turns out. At the time just one of a litany of issues I was facing, and hardly the worst of them. I simply put on another pair of socks and noted it for later. Weeks after I arrived home, it hardened and peeled, a strange little knot of once-flesh falling from the fourth toe of my right foot, leaving it a bit abrupt. And apparently, now, forever slightly weak to cold. I froze it again this winter, somehow I simply failed to notice, and I'm watching it form it's crude little black scab. Reminding me that I never did beat that ice storm. It caught me every time.

There's a ton of extremely memorable moments in the series, and watching it evolve from what it thought it was in season one into what it is in season four and beyond is fascinating.

This is of course from Galatians 4:16 which is actually the gospel of Paul. I find myself using this meme template nearly constantly these days because of how horrible The Discourse has gotten and nowhere is that more obvious than in the replies to the quoted skeet.
