LA based. Loves Eating, Dogs, Running, Poetry and Nice People. I’m interested in all disrupters of the American Healthcare system, good, bad and pathogenic. (I use my bsky as a way to bookmark thoughts through 🧵)
This is so dangerous. Like damn, lawsuits gonna be flying out of everywhere!

Also, love EMS, but how many times have they brought me a pt with all the risk factors complaining of chest pain, had no stemi- and then they showed a stemi in house? Poor Mainers- forever getting f*cked by this senator.

He was verrrrry good in this movie (that has a lot of tacky moments). It scared me how believable he was and how easy it is to see the parallels to today.

The mandatory ratios here don’t work as well, bc to truly care for a patient with so many comorbidities and provide the education they need to not become a bounce-back statistic, they’d need one to one care. Almost none of them “qualify” for it in the current acuities systems.

Certain hospitals in LA have 75% of their patients who are NOT homeless having no primary care. Particularly parts of South LA.

I’d rather new nurses enjoy their career, and if it means starting on a lower acuity unit so be it. The system is broken here.

As someone who dealt with anemia from iron deficiency and now-resolved menorrhagia, hope you find a treatment that works! Anemia can be debilitating and cause such a change in our mental health. Glad you’ve messaged them. 💗

Glad it helped. Hope you have a good PCP taking care of you! 💗

Also, if you’re a menstruating female who struggles with mennorhagia (heavy bleeding), anemia can cause your A1C to go up, too.

Yes, without knowing your individual circumstances, it is possible. New research shows that it invades cells in your pancreas and messes with your gut microbiome- pretty dramatically in some- also affecting your blood sugar levels.

Also, don’t know what region you’re practicing in, but here- depending on the neighborhood you work in- lots of super sick patients with no outside resources or education. Causes a lot of chaos for our ratios. Everywhere is pretty understaffed all the time and has floats, travelers and registry.

Also, seeing so many young ones burned out so quickly just makes me sad. I can’t imagine starting a new career, being excited for it and then crashing out a year in bc of burnout. They need better burnout prevention everywhere.

Most hospitals here. I’ve worked at more than a few and friends work at others. They aren’t going to get that support here in LA, so they’re better off starting on a PCU/tele unit and avoiding the anguish and burnout. I would advise most of them against starting in ICU, d/T lack of support.

happy to burn through new grads here bc it’s cheap labor.

Plenty here in Los Angeles do it. And most schools only spend one semester on critical care concepts. I think for MICU/RICU it’s okay for new grads, bc those concepts are emphasized in schools here. The rest, no.

And same thing with the ED- depends on the acuity for new grads. Hospitals here seem

things like aesthetics or IV infusion therapy.

I think the support they need doesn’t make money for most hospitals short term so they don’t invest.

I think it depends on the ICU and the acuity. I think starting new grads in certain ICUs can be overwhelming bc they don’t teach much regarding ICU level care in school and lead to early burnout.

Most new grads I’ve worked with in ICUs stay one or two yrs, then wind up working non-bedside doing

Strong start. Next you just have to audition for the show! 🙃 Then you’ll be on your bad way

Being good is garbage these days. Wishing you many fail ups and much fun in the future 💗

Fingers crossed she did. But also, I would like to be exiled to Malibu, too. Maybe it’s time for me to start doing bad. 😆
