I'm looking forward to both combing their outraged angriness at a logarithmic rate of increase until they implode like a supernova.

Dirty martini. London Jazz Festival. Amazing gig by Hiromi and her band playing Sonic Wonder. Asian based friends...they're now embarking on a tour in China and Japan. It's the chance of a lifetime to see mind-blowing musicianship.

Took you recommendation @thatneilmartin.bsky.social and tried the Martini Bar at the Barbican. Good advice.

This is a current phishing ploy. The email comes from a legitimate address (aol) but the reply goes to another address (hotmail), one that's been set up by the spam merchants. This is very easily missed as the understandable assumption is that it goes to the proper inbox.

Not sure if the police are the sharpest tools in the shed with their wonky maths. One reason: the Japanese number is the whole population and includes children. Most foreigners living in Japan are single adults. Hence two different, incomparable sets.

Watched one of the all time great Japanese films on the big screen. The Life of Oharu 西鶴一代女, Saikaku ichidai onna tells the tragic fate of women mistreated by family, lovers, and society. As relevant today as it ever was - and not just in Japan. (Think Epstein et al.)

If you enjoy photography there's an interesting publishing house who sell these rather unusual phonebooks. (And photographers professional and amateur can submit their work.)

Card From The Cotswolds is a short documentary dating from 1955 and filmed by Eric Owen. These are pub scenes that include a cockerel drinking beer. Gravity pumps and a barrel on the bar.

Well we now know the immediate impact of the Chinese government's exhortation that its citizens refrain from travelling to Japan. The South China Morning Post reports that over the last few days there have been over 400,000 flight cancellations by Chinese tourists. (Image by Cecil Beaton.)

Rewatched this the other night. Brilliant!
Onibaba 鬼婆. Simply one of the most innovative films made for mainstream cinema: a single setting; Hikaru Hayashi’s soundtrack of percussion, brass, screams, and guttural yells, and director Kaneto Shindo's vision.

Inbound tourism represents a growing 8% of Japan's GDP. Chinese nationals currently account for 1/3rd of visitors. If their numbers fall there could be another 1% contraction on top of the 2% contraction in total GDP recently seen because of Trump's tariffs.
