Really sad to say I did not like this. There was real charm and energy at the start, and a few good bits here and there, but it was for the most part a horrendously superficial adaptation that didn't care for any of the interesting ideas presented in the game.

This is a movie of all time. I'm honestly surprised Kawamori didn't announce his retirement with this. It's definitely trash, but it's fantastic trash. I have to love a movie that gives 180% of itself at all times.

This is the best sports thing I've seen since Ping Pong the Animation. Intensely humane film about passion and obsession. Does lots of really cool things with the passage of time. Looks absolutely jaw-dropping, too. Rotoscoping fucking rocks when done well.
