“I want to make a special appeal to soldiers, national guardsmen, and policemen: each of you is one of us. The peasants you kill are your own brothers and sisters. When you hear a man telling you to kill, remember God’s words, ‘thou shalt not kill.’”

American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social. theatln.tc/AmsjsuT6

It took me a bit to write up my thoughts on American Primeval, and a bit more for the Tribune to publish them, but I think we could all use a little more nuance and a few more history lessons right now.
Commentary: To learn the real lessons of history in ‘American Primeval,’ we need the real story
Historian Janiece Johnson explains why "American Primeval" falls short in helping viewers understand the Old West, including Latter-day Saints and the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

Had a church Christmas party tonight. Retired physics prof told me he bought Convicting the Mormons, read it, and learned a lot. Lovely.

He also mentioned that he had to look up a few words. Only older men seem to need to tell me that they had to look up words. But he seemed delighted about it.
