I write. I read. I am a tabletop RPG player. I also have my life managed by cats, guinea pigs, and my garden.
This week, all sorts of different things are on my reading shelf!

Are gaming resources fiction or non-fiction?

FF: The Reader Changes
Cayenne and Kitten Candy Cayenne actually thinks catnip (which is what is in the sock he’s playing with) is magic, but that is the exception that proves how important perspective is to continuing p…

Interesting postscript to this... I'm hearing from a lot of folks in the same city, even at higher altitude that they have not had a killing frost. Microclimates are SO nifty!

Late Harvest We finally had a killing frost Sunday night when temperatures dropped to 29 F and took out our garden. Except where it didn’t.  Plants in sheltered areas near walls or items that …

7 month-old Cayenne has adopted 13 year-old Persephone as his "Tia." Everyone is delighted.

End of season gardening led me to thing about the non-writing writer things. @annakakalton.bsky.social I thought a lot about you because you also make mead and so your harvest is on-going.

I Am Not a Squirrel
Not Me! I’m not a squirrel, although this time of year I feel distinct sympathy for those hard-working little rodents.  The cactus pears are harvested and processed.  The basil is picked,…

Frost warning. I've transplanted arugula into a pot to see how it will do as a cold weather crop. Shifted snapdragons to shelter. Gotten the amaryllis ready to come in for the winter. Next up. Lily bulbs.

Winter is coming means something different to a gardener, right @tkingfisher.com?

Overheard.

"Why are so many women running for office these days?"

"We're used to doing tough, thankless jobs."

When life (or your yard) gives you cactus pears...

Here's an experiment suggested by a WW reader last week!

Brilliant Suggestion!
Nice Cream and Zinnias Last week, when I wandered on about harvesting cactus pears (also called “tunas” or “prickly pears”), I invited readers to offer ideas that would help Jim and me find uses fo…

I just bought new glasses! Pricy, because I have a strong prescription, but I had a delightful chat with the person who helped me, and he really did his best to get me a good deal. SO appreciated.

This week... Cactus pears. A little window into what I do when brooding over stories.

Liquid Jewels
Cactus Pear Treats It’s harvest time, so I’ve been processing the cactus pear tunas (that’s what the fruit is called) that Jim picked and froze over the latter part of the summer.  Freezing so…

Cascabel Considers I’m still in the mending track, but doing better. Now for the usual reminder…  The Friday Fragments is not a book review column; it’s a list of what I’m reading and maybe a …
