Retired. Joint founder of Capital! Steampunk NZ. I am a gardener, nature lover, a maker of good food and I love to create costumes and clothes.
Volunteering at Wellington NZ's South Coast clean up on a blustery morning today. I received a $10 gift voucher for my efforts. Our beach is now free of vapes, cigarette butts, wrappers, plastic food/drink containers, aluminium cans, and beer bottles all hidden in the flax and caprosma bushes.

Princess Bay, is on the southern coast of the Wellington Peninsula. It has Mesozoic greywacke that has been uplifted, with some sections tilted to a 90-degrees angle. Sedimentary rocks and fossils that we haven't found yet. And lots of volcanic pumice being washed up on the beach.

We walked Te Ara Piko: the meandering path walkway around Pauatahanui Inlet near Porirua NZ on a fine sunny day. Lots of interesting birds to see. The largest salt marsh in the lower North Island.

The early evening sky today in Wellington, NZ, looking east after raining solidly all afternoon. I love the soft light catching the clouds.

This afternoon we explored Fort Buckley on the side of a steep hill of Wadestown, Wgtn, NZ, that overlooks the port, motorway and the ferry marshalling yards. Colourful grafitti in two gun emplacements, short tunnels connecting them and flat overgrown terraces.

Walking in Zealandia Wellington, NZ exploring the old gold mine walking tracks. The birdlife was abundant.

bsky.app/profile/mets... it's wild and stormy in Wellington today. Birds are sheltering, and the swell is powering down over sea walls. It's the sort of weather that lifts roofs, brings down trees & power lines, and scatters dangerous debris. Severe and life threatening gusts. Staying home.
Hunker down Wellington 💨

The wind is expected to peak this afternoon and an escalation to Red Warning means there's a real risk to life.

Stay home if possible and prepare for power outages.

Winds are forecast to ease into the evening.

Exploring the fungi of Zealandia in Wellington NZ today, along Fantail, Plylon and the Perimeter fence tracks. Quite a climb up on a cloudy autumn day.

Went walking in Zealandia on tracks high along the fenceline, rested my walking poles against a wooden bench then a Black Robyn took a fancy to the yellow tab and black tape on the end of the poles. It pecked vigorously trying to eat it. Amazing moment.

We have been helping clear a noxious weed Old Mans Beard from our neighbours boundary. Its smothering native punga tree ferns, fruit trees and spreading over powerlines and roofs.
