She's the best ever at Drake, which has had a few great ones. Later that night, past players gathered for a drink and former Bulldog and current Iowa coach Jan Jensen stopped by. She was no slouch, either. This photo brings me such joy, I need to frame it and put it up at home.

A year ago, Drake celebrated its 50th anniversary of women’s basketball and all its greatest stars were there. There was none greater than 1986 all-American Wanda Ford. I had the privilege of covering her as a student journalist. Absolutely incredible, led the nation and scoring and rebounding. …

One of my favorite photos of my dad. I don’t know if he was shipping out or coming home, but I love that it captures the small-town boy (7 in his graduation class) in the big city. And the photo itself is so Vivian Maier. Possibly, probably, a self-portrait; he did a lot of them as a soldier.

Big fan of this business name that I just saw as I was driving around looking at pretty trees.

It was me helping my photographer friend test the lighting for a portrait to accompany a story I wrote. Current basketball fans will recognize one of them, old-school Iowans would certainly know both

Last night, I took a picture of a house where they pretty much overdo the Halloween decorations. I was at a stop sign, just whipped out my phone and snapped a picture and drove off. I didn’t realize til just now that this is what I got. This looks way better than their decorations.

On Oct. 20, 1951, one of the more unknown stories in sports happened. Johnny Bright, best football player in Drake's history and a Black QB, was sidelined by a punch that broke his jaw. Might have won the Heisman that year

Ah, Columbus Day in the days of We were Brownies, we got to be on Circus 3 with Cowboy Eddie and Howie Olson (in Madison), they asked us a question about Columbus Day and I was such a geek even then that whatever answer I gave them was the best and I won a box of Twinkies.

I didn’t particularly idolize Diane Keaton or Annie Hall when I was a teenager but I clearly had at least one outfit inspired by her.

This week the Crown Prince of Norway was in Decorah, Iowa, and the Twin Cities. His dad, King Harald, came to my WI hometown in 1965 when he was crowned prince and my dad was there to capture the moment. Complete with a police officer texting before texting was invented.
