Dad, husband, nerd, and concerned Coloradan looking to get involved to improve government and the way it works for people. This account is for all the political stuff.
Apparently not.

The thread would be unending, a constant parade of awful actions by unscrupulous actors at the worst possible moments.

The struggle is real. But also, hey, good morning! Enjoy that coffee and sunrise!

The internet was a mistake.

Yep. At least then they'd have a book that told them "Hey, this is what Socialism actually is." Maybe then they wouldn't call every single project the government undertakes "Socialism." But probably not.

Letting people fall into deeper poverty will only serve to radicalize them further. I get what you're saying, but it's just counterproductive.
November 21, 2025 at 2:08 PM
Great - but you also don't think that any organized attempt to help other people is socialism, either.
November 21, 2025 at 12:45 AM
I don't care if they like it or not, I'm just tired of 'socialism' being a stand in for 'any organized attempt to help other people that I don't personally benefit from.'

Lost them?
November 20, 2025 at 9:35 PM
No, I'm not assuming all farmers voted the same way. Many did, though, clearly. I'm also not assuming farmers are racist - many work every day with latinos and regard them with respect. Farmers are just as diverse a group as any other.

My hope is that the impact of the Chinese markets closing AND their loss of migrant labor together will force a large enough minority of them into listening to some alternate ideas.
November 20, 2025 at 5:25 PM
For a group of people who are supposed to think long term, that seems incredibly short sighted. I hope they take that eventual bailout money and plant something other than corn and soybeans next year.
November 20, 2025 at 5:23 PM
It's not even great at hiding given the distributed ledger. It's just really good for wild speculation and trans-national transfers.
November 20, 2025 at 4:26 PM
I wish I could send every person who uses 'socialism' pejoratively a copy of the Communist Manifesto.
November 20, 2025 at 4:25 PM
So the logic is "I'm going to vote for Trump even if I know he's going to screw up my export market because I'm sure he'll make us whole anyways." ??
November 20, 2025 at 4:23 PM
So then where's the disconnect? If I'm a soybean farmer, why the hell would I vote for the guy who managed to close access to my biggest market last time he was President? Why would I vote for his party?
November 20, 2025 at 3:46 PM
Yeah, I have similar discussions. Always someone else to blame.
November 20, 2025 at 3:43 PM
Yeah, the RW media echo chamber is a tough thing to overcome, NGL. I don't have any ideas on how to solve that, either.
November 20, 2025 at 3:42 PM
Or we mandate that all citizens must pass the existing citizenship exam before voting. lol
November 20, 2025 at 3:41 PM
So now our chance as Democrats is to offer policy solutions that are simple to understand, that connect with farmers, and provide a reasonable alternative to Trump. "Do you want handouts or open markets to sell your product?"
November 20, 2025 at 2:35 PM
I don't think a lot of the people in rural areas thought about their votes in terms of policy actions or direct repercussions. Most republican voters I know aren't well versed in policy or want to talk much about it. They hate getting things explained to them and just want simple answers to stuff.
November 20, 2025 at 2:33 PM
I don't think a lot of them put 2 and 2 together like that. Or if it's presented that way, they deny the relationship between the two and put the blame elsewhere.
November 20, 2025 at 1:35 PM
Sure we need arguments for policies on the merits, but most voters don't understand policy. Biden did a ton of great stuff for Americans but Harris got beat because of inflation, which was out of her control. Dems need tighter links to outcomes from their policies and better PR for how gov't helps.
