It led to massive demonstrations in Moscow after a group of hard line communists instituted a coup against Gorbachev. The Red Army soldiers refused the orders given to shoot their own people.

Those of us disabled and elderly would instead appreciate a massive riot so we don't starve or die the month they turn it off. TYVM :)
