Took a free batik class at Dua DC Coffee, an Indonesian kopi shop. You apply wax to resist the dye and then you iron the wax off after dying. Wringing out the fabric creates the marbled effect. There’s a paid class next week at GW museum.gwu.edu/workshop-int...

Silver Spring really is the new U Street when it comes to Ethiopian. This vegetarian combo from Effoi was pretty good as was the fried tilapia. The injera was less fermented than usual. Tofu tubs were also very good.

Takumi Sushi in Bethesda has some amazing lunch specials and the sushi quality is pretty great. This was $18.

My aunt has a star fruit tree in her yard and it is so much sweeter and flavorful than what you get in the store.

Made gua bao because pork belly was on sale. All the pickles: mustard stem, radish, cabbage and shallot. Did not pickle the cuke because of course.
Also making the pocket shape is tough without knocking all the air out, so this is a normal one viciously knifed.
